Creating online shops

Are you planning to start your own business and don't know how to create a professional online shop? Or maybe you already run a business and want to make your offer available online? Welcome to Mits – a craft Software House where we will help you establish your online presence. We specialise in WooCommerce and Sylius technologies, offering solutions ranging from simple shops for £1,500 to advanced enterprise systems. Each of our shop implementations is an investment for years to come – with no monthly fees and full control over functionalities.

The steady growth of the Polish e-commerce market is estimated at 8% per annum. Every day, 21 new online shops join the over 40,000 already operating. Online shops eliminate barriers resulting from the availability of commercial infrastructure.

Who do we create online shops for?

E-commerce applications are developed based on target customer groups:

  • business-to-business (B2B),
  • business-to-consumer (B2C),
  • consumer-to-consumer (C2C)
  • consumer-to-business (C2B)

After reviewing the basic assumptions of the project, the team prepares a detailed action plan and defines the nature of the planned service. This ensures that every e-commerce application coming out of Mits is unique and tailored to the customer's needs.

Creating online shops – popular e-commerce solutions

The most popular e-commerce solution.

Depending on the number of products sold, we use open source solutions or decide on the need to create dedicated solutions. If advanced product search is important, we implement additional search engines. At Mits, we have completed dozens of projects based on various shop engines: Wooommerce, Prestashop, Magento and Sylius.

Over the years, we have had the pleasure of creating online shops not only locally but also for many brands from Europe and other continents. We have presented the e-commerce solutions we have implemented in the form of a short summary according to their types.

Price comparison websites present product data obtained from multiple e-commerce sources in an organised manner. Users can filter results by price, popularity, reviews or shop location, allowing them to choose the most attractive offer.

A growing type of e-commerce application.

This type of service brings together many sellers and allows you to make one-off purchases from each of them. Due to its nature, a marketplace offers a very wide range of products and allows customers to make purchases from multiple suppliers in one simple shopping basket. It also significantly simplifies the payment process for purchased products, leaving the issue of settlements with sellers to the marketplace owners.

A characteristic feature of marketplaces is that the single shopping basket used by the end user is usually divided according to product suppliers. This allows the marketplace administrator to manage orders from each supplier separately and eliminates the potential risk of waiting for a single product, which could block the shipment of the entire order.

Additionally, the way marketplaces make money is characteristic of them. Unlike a traditional online shop, a marketplace is based on sales commissions. Thanks to the ability to fully track orders flowing to suppliers, the e-commerce solution administrator has a complete overview of the events taking place on their website.

The implementation of marketplaces has also played a significant role in our portfolio. Our task was to prepare the design and implementation of an e-commerce application for a client from the automotive industry. Various integrations, non-standard methods of importing and settling accounts with contractors, and finally, automated conditions for defining prices for consumers – these are just some of the elements we had the pleasure of implementing.

Online wholesalers are internet platforms that enable entrepreneurs to purchase products in larger quantities, often at wholesale prices, for resale. They operate in a similar way to traditional wholesalers, but transactions and purchasing processes take place entirely online.

Website designs of this type are solutions that combine elements of websites and e-commerce applications. Projects of this type allow users to browse the full range of products available from a company, using search, filter and sort mechanisms. In addition, catalogues often contain specialist materials related to products, such as user manuals.

SaaS (software as a service) applications are becoming increasingly popular. That is why we have had many opportunities to create solutions offering access to digital products (services/materials) in such models. One of our recent projects of this type was QualUp dedicated business consulting application.

The process of creating online shops – how the cooperation works

A characteristic feature of a well-designed online shop is its effectiveness. An intuitive purchasing process allows potential customers to easily find a product, add it to their basket and complete the purchase. This is the key to success.

To obtain this key, a series of steps must be taken:

We begin each project with a detailed discussion about your business, target groups, and sales objectives. Based on this, we recommend the optimal technology and functionalities.

Stage outcomes:

  • Detailed functional specification
  • Technology selection (WooCommerce vs Sylius)
  • Project schedule with milestones
  • Transparent pricing with no hidden costs

For premium shops, we create individual graphic designs, while for standard shops, we select and personalise premium themes. At the same time, we plan the technical architecture and integrations.

Documents produced:

  • Graphic design (Premium) or theme customisation (Standard)
  • Map of categories and product structure
  • Plan for integration with payment and logistics systems
  • Technical specifications for developers

We build the shop in accordance with the approved design, testing each feature in the development environment. The customer can track progress and provide feedback on an ongoing basis.

Quality control:

  • Functionality testing on various devices
  • Performance and security audits
  • Search engine optimisation
  • Integration testing with external systems

After launching the shop, we conduct comprehensive training tailored to the technical level of users. We create video materials and documentation to facilitate everyday operation.

Post-implementation support:

  • Free support period in accordance with the package
  • Permanent access to training materials
  • Assistance in optimising the sales process
  • Performance monitoring and proactive suggestions for improvement
  • Post-warranty support

How much does an online shop cost?

The cost of a professional online shop depends on the technology and functionality you choose. While subscription platforms may seem cheaper at first, in the long run, owned shops turn out to be much more cost-effective. At Mits, we offer transparent WooCommerce packages starting at just a few thousand zlotys, as well as advanced enterprise solutions based on Sylius. The investment in a professional shop pays for itself in the first year thanks to higher conversion rates and no monthly subscription fees.

Implementations at Mits start at £1,500 net. The final price depends on the individual characteristics of the specific project.

In order for a shop to be truly functional, many important elements must be taken care of.
Below are the most important ones.

There are several basic features that every online shop must have.

Online shops vs brick-and-mortar shops

When running a brick-and-mortar shop, at some point you will face several challenges:

The market for your potential customers is heavily dependent on the area in which it operates. You know very well that you cannot rest on your laurels and must seek out new markets.

In a world where everyone is on the run, the possibility of shopping during the hours you impose (e.g. 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.) means a significant loss of potential customers. Only highly motivated people may want to take advantage of your offer by taking time off work or going to the shop on a rainy day.

The larger your shop becomes, the higher the costs involved. In addition to the commercial premises themselves, you need to take care of storage space where you will store your goods. This often requires really large investments.

As the shop expands, more staff need to be hired to run it. Instead of hiring two sales assistants, you need to hire two more people, plus someone to manage the warehouse. Costs increase significantly...

A burdensome way of monitoring user behaviour. In all this, it is worth analysing traffic in the shop and verifying who buys what and how. The analysis process is demanding and inevitably takes up your valuable time.

Online shop engine – which one to choose?

To set up a well-functioning online shop, you need to consider which shop engine to choose to meet the needs of your business.

It is a good choice for small and medium-sized businesses that need a simple solution. Unfortunately, PrestaShop is moderately scalable – if your business expands its offering, it may prove insufficient. It has very strong community support and a lot of free and paid plugins.

An excellent solution for start-ups and small shops. If you already have a WordPress-based website and need to quickly launch a sales section, WooCommerce may be the right solution for you. It has a very large community support and many free and paid plugins.

A very good solution for large companies and corporations that need advanced features and scalability. However, implementing a store on Magento requires advanced technical knowledge for configuration. Magento offers the possibility of configuration with additional modules, but in most cases, expansion is done by writing your own solutions.

A solution for large companies and corporations that is just as good as Magento. Unlike Magento, it is much easier to maintain. However, it requires knowledge and familiarity with the Symfony framework and the PHP language. Magento offers the possibility of configuration with additional modules, but in most cases, expansion is done by writing your own solutions.

We offer face-to-face meetings within a 200 km radius at no extra cost and full remote support for clients from all over the country. We are very knowledgeable about our region, but the experience we have gained throughout the country translates into a better understanding of other local markets and target groups. We have an excellent understanding of the similarities and specific differences between them. Some of these are literally nuances or ‘niche flavours’.

Each region receives support tailored to its local characteristics. We know the differences between different areas of Poland and translate this into practical advice on shop functionality and sales strategies tailored to the local market.

Frequently asked questions about creating online shops

Yes. Unlike subscription platforms, we provide you with all access data: FTP server, database, administration panel. The shop is your property and you can transfer it to any company that supports WooCommerce.

  • Standard Package: 2–3 weeks from receipt of materials
  • Premium Package: 4–6 weeks from project approval
  • Sylius: 8–16 weeks depending on complexity

Yes. The WooCommerce panel is intuitive and available in Polish. We provide training and video materials. Anyone with basic computer skills can add products and manage orders.

The basic costs are hosting (PLN 300-800 per year) and domain (PLN 50-150 per year). Additional costs include payment commissions (1.2-1.9% per transaction) and possible technical support and marketing.

WooCommerce offers unlimited expansion possibilities thanks to thousands of available plugins. Sylius, on the other hand, allows for any code modifications. In both cases, the shop can grow along with your business.

We specialise in creating dedicated solutions. Whether it's a product configurator, a booking system, or integration with an unusual API, we will find a solution that suits your needs. Supporting processes through AI holds no secrets for us.

Yes. Meetings are possible at our offices in Lublin and Puławy by prior arrangement. Cooperation with clients from other cities and countries is generally conducted remotely (e-mail, telephone, online meetings), but this does not exclude personal contact. The process of creating an online shop itself is conducted remotely.

The graphic design of the shop is handled by a graphic designer, front-end and back-end developers, and testers. We do not work in large teams, which limits the number of orders we can accept, but this allows us to approach each client individually. It is also worth mentioning the key role of the Project Manager, whose task is to maintain constant contact and collect requirements and information from you. This usually takes up about 5-10% of the time of designers, programmers and testers. In addition, we can recommend a photographer or online printing company and other related services.

By signing the agreement, the Customer undertakes to pay an advance payment of approximately 30% of the order value, based on the VAT invoice received. The remaining amount is payable upon completion of the order (we send the final VAT invoice together with access details and training on how to use the online shop).

Websites fall victim to hacker attacks and viruses. Already at the development stage, we ensure a high level of security (anti-spam plugins, automatic updates, programming security). We make sure to provide comprehensive information on how to operate the website. We provide a free SSL certificate for every website hosted on our servers.
